DAWNING is named in loving tribute to the original weekly goth/industrial nightclub The Dawning, established in its earliest incarnation by Andy Deane and Gopal Metro (of the band Bella Morte), then continued by Christiane Knight (DJ Xian) and held at the Tokyo Rose in Charlottesville for several years.  The Dawning went on under the leadership of Patrick Allen and Chad VanPelt (DJ Rift) and a relocation to The Outback Lodge.

We salute all who were involved in continuing The Dawning over the years, and we especially salute those of you who attended.  You are the reason we're undertaking this now.

DAWNING, this new (and hopefully regular) event at the Main St. Annex on Charlottesville's downtown mall, is a request-friendly night of dark music including goth, industrial, electro, ebm, noise, rock, trip hop, synthpop, 80's, shoegaze, new rage, new wave, no wave, glam, punk, proto-punk, post-punk, classic and current alternative, and anything else spooky you might like to hear.

Further History of The (original) Dawning and who we are:

After leaving the Tokyo Rose, The Dawning continued at The Outback Lodge until faced again with needing a new home.  A temporary solution was offered by D.J. Cadybug (now host of WNRN's Subculture Shock), "DJ.k00k", and John via the soon-to-close OurSpace Community Center and the also soon-to-close not-a-club club DUST (location now operating as Woolly Mammoth).

It meant three more shows of The Dawning happened, and three more weeks were spent searching for a new, more permanent venue that, sadly, never materialized.

The Dawning became the piece of Charlottesville history that is still remembered fondly and asked about to this day.

It's time for a new dawning.
